Yahoo wants to enlist a small army of search start-ups as allies in the hope that collectively they will be able to stop the Google juggernaut, whose share of Web searches keeps growing.

YAHOO has announced that it will set up a new R&D facility in Israel, its first in the Middle East. According to Yahoo, the lab will be based in the Northern Israeli city of Haifa and will focus on simplifying technology problems in web searches.
